Submission Guidelines

Utopia Parkway accepts original, unpublished short fiction, poetry, non-fiction, drama, and art from undergraduates currently enrolled at Queens College.

We are looking for pieces that represent the creative potential of the student body at Queens College. As a result, there is no specific content requirement. If you are an undergraduate at Queens College and you have a work of writing that required creativity to produce, submit it!

All submissions must be e-mailed to as a .doc or .docx Word attachment, with each piece in its own document. The subject line of your submission email should read “Submission:” followed by the genre of the work you are submitting. If you are submitting two poems, for example, your subject line should read “Submission: Poetry.” Limit to 3 submissions in any one category.

All submissions must be formatted MLA style with 12-point Times New Roman font and 1-inch margins. Genre specific guidelines are listed below:


We are interested in short literary and genre fiction between 300 and 5,000 words. All fiction submissions must be double-spaced.


Open to various formatting. Multiple poems must be submitted separately.


We are interested in monologues, one acts and shorts between 300 and 5,000 words. All drama submissions must be double-spaced.


We are interested in all creative non-fiction such as memoirs and academic essays between 300 and 5,000 words. All non-fiction submissions must be double-spaced.

Visual Art

We are interested in artwork with a focus on the borough of Queens. Photographs, drawings, paintings, etc. Submissions outside of this focus are welcome as well. Please e-mail PDF files to with the subject heading “art”. Queries welcome.

Published authors will be compensated with a copy of the journal. Good luck!
